Every country in every part of the world has its botanical treasures, the greatest of which are so important to the society that they become pillars of the culture. Palo Santo is one such medicine. It’s healing powers are so numerous that it has served as a panacea for areas of South America for centuries. Its use in sacred ritual is so powerful that it is an essential tool for Shamans and Saints alike. And its aroma is so incredible that it stands among the greatest of the world’s fragrant woods. Because of the extraordinary blessings it bestows upon those who have the good fortune use it, over time, plant-medicines such as Palo Santo reach divine-like status in the hearts and minds of the people.
Palo Santo means ‘holy wood’ or ‘sacred tree’ and is an aromatic tree endemic to the Galapagos Islands. The most well known way of using Palo Santo wood is burning it as incense. However, perhaps the most powerful way of accessing its healing potency is through using its essential oil. The Palo Santo essential oil is acquired through steam distillation of the wood. In addition to the essential oil, the distillation process yields a valuable, fragrant and medicinal water known as hydrosol. Floracopeia recently added Palo Santo hydrosol to our collection of botanical treasures.
It is also very important to note that palo santo is now an endangered species. Floracopeia’s palo santo is harvested from a sustainable source and for every liter of palo santo oil we sell, 150 palo santo trees are planted. Read more about our palo santo project here.

Palo Santo Essential Oil
Palo Santo Essential Oil is a powerful botanical substance and is the alchemical fruition of the distilled wood. The Palo Santo Essential Oil is the concentrated essence of the plant and a little can go a long way. Too much direct contact with the skin can cause irritation. Here are the best ways of using palo santo oil:
Direct Palm Inhalation: Place a drop of Palo Santo essential oil in the hands, rub the palms together, cup the hands in front of the face and take a deep direct inhalation. Suspend the breath momentarily and then exhale. Repeat this process 2-3 times per day.
Diffuser: Studies show that using a high quality nebulizer is the most effective way to take advantage of the therapeutic benefits of essential oils. Diffuse palo santo oil in your home to increase the immunity of the entire family, purify the energetic field and create an aromatically beautiful environment. Palo Santo essential oil combines very well in a diffuser with its distant cousin, Frankincense.
DO NOT TAKE PALO SANTO ESSENTIAL OIL INTERNALLY
Palo Santo Hydrosol
Palo Santo Hydrosol is the aromatic water that is created during the distillation process. Hydrosols are extremely useful for a variety of reasons. Small amounts of hydrosol can be consumed internally allowing one to take advantage of the digestive benefits of palo santo. The Palo Santo Hydrosol can also be used as an aromatic spray to refresh the mind and purify the aura. Here is how to use Palo Santo Hydrosol:
Internal Usage: Add 1-2 tablespoons of the hydrosol to a glass of water and enjoy.
Aromatic Spray: Floracopeia’s hydrosols come in a 2 oz spray bottle. Spray the hydrosol around the body and aura as needed to refreshen, energize and shift negative moods.
Palo Santo Wood Chips
The most common use of the wood chips is for incense. Simply light one side of the stick, turn the stick upside down to increase the heat, blow out and enjoy the palo santo incense. Repeat as often as you’d like.
